Viral Advertising Case Study: Good results or Failure?

The Skinny on Hair Salon Marketing

I have been thinking lately about hair salon marketing.

Right up front let me just say that finding a GOOD hair salon requires a little luck.

The question still remains…how do you find a good hair salon? I was in desperate need of a hair cut. The woman who did my hair, and if I recall correctly, she was the owner of the hair salon, after completing the hair cut, hands me a mirror, spins the chair around and loudly proclaims for all to hear, “Oh, you look so much better”. When the time came around for another hair cut, I pulled out those yellow pages and buckled up for another random hair-salon-choosing ride.

I fondly remember my favorite hair dresser, as I’m contemplating hair salon marketing and how to simplify the process.

Hair salon marketing…a subject worth pondering. I found a gem of a hair dresser. No yellow pages, no hype, no commercial marketing. I asked a friend where she went to have her hair done.

Hair salon marketing is an art form. Hair salon marketing at its best is word of mouth marketing and I can now shred those yellow pages and rest in hair salon peace.

The Skinny on Hair Salon Marketing

This case study in viral marketing is the result of a wonderful experience I had recently participating in a business networking event. A friend and business acquaintance, retired from a career in tradition marketing, recently started learning about social networking.

With no experience in websites or social networking, he launched his new venture, Self Marketing, a few months ago. First, he created a website using Yahoo! Web Hosting. Then he created social networking accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. With no experience in viral marketing, he acquired 71 people in his Facebook group and 14 in LinkedIn. 36 people joined his Meetup group. People will tell other people about it.
